This is a great set to get started with. Once you start using it you'll want more. The weight for me is the main factor. When I'm stirring in ingredients I don't want the pot skiddling all over the stove, this stays put as you stir or whisk. The heavy lids hold in the moisture and the thick iorn pot retains a nice even heat, you could turn off a stew say, for 45 mins. before your'e finished and it will continue to cook and then keep warm. Thin metal pots are more prone to burning, sticking and warping. Their whimsical shapes and sharp colors are very appealing to the eye, you'll want to leave it out on the stove as decor. I just bought the boulliebaise pot with the fish knob, cool. I love this stuff
