Are corn muffins and corn bread the same thing? Recipe I have calls for corn muffin mix prepared according….

to package directions. I’m wanting to make some corn dogs in the GT Xpress and the GT Xpress recipe calls for 1 pouch 6.4 to 6.5 ounces or one small box (7 to 8.5 ounces) of corn muffin mix and 3 hot dogs whole or cut into pieces. I am supposed to mix the corn muffin mix according to package directions and use that as the batter for the corn dogs. At home I have a canister of Yellow Corn Meal and on the back of the canister it has a recipe for making corn bread. I do have all the ingredients at home for making the corn bread can I just use that recipe instead of the prepared corn muffin mix (which I don%26#039;t have on hand). Would the prepared corn bread batter be the exact same thing as me going to the store and buying a box of corn muffin mix and preparing according to package directions like the GT Express recipe calls for?? Anyone know?

[Answer]:Back home, corn bread was always made from scratch with corn meal. I think you could probably use either one as long as you don%26#039;t get it too runny to start. Corn muffin mix is usually a little sweeter so you have to decide if you want the dogs to have a sweeter breading on it.

aeration in a planted aquarium?

I just wanted to know if its wise to turn on the air pump during the night and turning it off a few mins after the aquarium lights come on. I read from a few websites that an airpump is usually not needed in a planted tank but at the same time i saw that plants take in oxygen during the night.

I have always used an airpump in my aquariums so not having it on during the day makes me feel iffy about whether or not the fishes in my tank can stand without it. Need some answers please!

my tank specs:

40gallons,

17w(generic flourescent that says to be emitting 90w of light) + 20w(powerglo) aquarium lights,

eheim canister filter,

airpump 802,

heater,

normal gravel,

a piece of driftwood.

PLANTS:

3 large amazons,

couple of stems of wisteria,

loose narrow leaf java fern (some are branching out little ones),

a small amount of java moss.

FISH:

2 discus,

2 angels,

1 cory,

1 pleco.

[Answer]:java moss will do the job by itself no problem once you have some decent sized clumps growing. java fern and java moss can grow under just about any condition so you can just drop them in and forget about them. the same goes with any of the anubias family of plants. all the plants you mentioned are fine with extra air if you are worried about your fish.

[Answer]:1) a) the prob of picking strawberry on first try is 5/20, second is 4/19. Multiply them and you get 2/38

b)prob of picking strawberry, then mint is (5/20)(6/19)

prob of picking mint, then strawberry is (6/20)(5/19), add them together and you get = (6/38)

2)a) same as previous (7/16)(6/15)(5/14) = .0625

b) (5/16)(4/15)(3/14) times 3 (3 different orders) = .01785

c) (7/16)(4/15)(5/14) times 6 (6 different orders) = .0416666

3)because it says %26quot;in that order%26quot; you don%26#039;t have to worry about the other possible orders, just multiply the probabilities like above.

4)The way I would do this problem is forget about the dictionary, then find how many ways the five books can be ordered, then multiply by two because for each possiblity the dictionary can be either first or last.

so 5*4*3*2*1 = 5!

then *2 = 2*5! = 240

5) Multiply the number of possibilities for each digit.

26 letters, 10 one digit numbers, 9 if cant be 0

This week I had the first case in history of raisin toxicity ever seen at

MedVet. My patient was a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix that ate

half a canister of raisins sometime between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM

on Tuesday. He started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking about 1AM on

Wednesday but the owner didn%26#039;t call my emergency service until 7AM.

I had heard somewhere about raisins AND grapes causing acute Renal failure

but hadn%26#039;t seen any formal paper on the subject. We had her bring the dog

in immediately. In the meantime, I called the ER service

at MedVet, and the doctor there was like me - had heard

something about it, but…. Anyway, we contacted the ASPCA National

Animal Poison Control Center and they said to give IV fluids at 1 = times

maintenance and watch the kidney values for the next 4! 8-72 hou rs.

The dog%26#039;s BUN (blood urea nitrogen level) was already at 32 (normal less

than 27) and creatinine over 5 (1.9 is the high end of normal). Both are

monitors of kidney function in the bloodstream. We placed an IV catheter

and started the fluids. Rechecked the renal values at 5 PM and the BUN was

over 40 and creatinine over 7 with no urine production after a liter of

fluids. At the point I felt the dog was in acute renal failure and sent

him on to MedVet for a urinary catheter to monitor urine output overnight

as well as overnight care.

He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet and his renal values have

continued to increase daily. He produced urine when given lasix as a

diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting medications and they still

couldn%26#039;t c ontrol his vomiting. Today his urine output decreased again, his

BUN was over 120, his creatinine was at 10, his phosphorus was very

elevated and his blood pressure, which had been staying around 150,

skyrocketed to 220.. He continued to vomit and the owners elected to

euthanize.

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners who had no idea raisins

could be a toxin. Please alert everyone you know who has a dog of this very

serious risk. Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could be

toxic. Many people I know give their dogs grapes or raisins as treats

including our ex-handler%26#039;s. Any exposure should give rise to immediate

concern.

[Answer]:wow i never thought that raisins or grapes could cause so much damage to a dog, i mean i know not to give them to a dog because they can harm them but i didn%26#039;t know to what extent, But as they say you learn a new thing every day right.

Turtle Tank Setup?

I keep my 3 inch western painted in a 55gal tank with 5 silverdollars, 6 neon tetras, 3 rainbow sharks, 3 mollies, and a ton of ghost shrimp… and two goldfish for cleaning.

So far the only fish that ever went missing are tetras and guppies, which I bought for him anyway. He leaves fish that are too big to fit completely in his mouth alone. This may not apply to all turtles… But it applies to Hachi.

I have a turtle dock and a piece of driftwood for basking, he prefers the driftwood, but dives off the dock all the time, also the dock is where I put his food. I have a reptisun2.0 UV light over him.

I have two filters, a 501 turtle filter and a whisper filter for 30gal tank. Together they push out 300gal%26#039;s an hour. The whisper is one that is like a canister in the water, not a hang-off-the-back filter.

So far everything is clean, but should I buy one more whisper filter? Or another 501? I used to have a canister that pumped out 600gal%26#039;s an hour but it broke, so I had to downgrade

[Answer]:Rule of thumb for turtles: There is no such thing as too much filtration, and you%26#039;ll have to do partial water changes weekly anyway.

By the way- your observations on prey selection are correct- they will ignore (but possibly harass) fish that are too big or too small.
